Eating Meat Prevents Alzheimers? Plus: Are Antidepressants the Answer?

Hey friend,

This one got me...

You may have seen headlines saying that eating meat can help prevent cognitive decline… and I wanted to break this down simply for you.

A new study found that some older adults—specifically those with a certain genetic risk for Alzheimer’s (called APOE4, of which I have 1 copy)—who ate more meat had slower cognitive decline over time.

But here’s the important part…

This doesn’t mean “more meat = better brain” for everyone.

And it definitely does NOT mean processed meat is good for you.

In fact, the same research (and many others) show that processed meats like bacon, deli meat, and sausage are linked to a higher risk of cognitive decline.

So what’s the takeaway?

Think quality and balance:

• Prioritize whole, unprocessed protein (like clean cuts of meat, fish, eggs)

• Limit processed meats as much as possible

• Support your brain with a full lifestyle—sleep, movement, stress management, and real food

Your brain health isn’t built on one food—it’s built on your daily habits.

And the good news? You have so much more control than you think.

Be Well,

Kerstin
