Here’s the down low…
The updated food pyramid represents a long-overdue shift away from calorie-counting and fear-based nutrition and toward foundational nourishment. Instead of placing grains at the base, this new model emphasizes whole, minimally processed foods, prioritizing protein, healthy fats, fiber-rich plants, and metabolic health. It reflects what both research and lived experience have been telling us for years: blood sugar stability, muscle maintenance, gut health, and inflammation control matter far more than rigid portion rules. The new pyramid encourages eating in a way that supports energy, mood, hormones, and long-term health, especially in midlife. Build meals around protein, vegetables, healthy fats, and whole-food carbohydrates, and let your body do what it was designed to do. This isn’t about perfection; it’s about partnership with your biology.
Can I Write Off a Home Gym?! Not yet.
Physical activity as healthcare! Recent changes and proposals have expanded the ability for individuals—especially those who are self-employed or using health-related savings accounts—to deduct or reimburse certain home fitness expenses when they are tied to medical or preventive health needs.
While there is no law in place, no bill has been signed. We are headed in the right direction.
The takeaway isn’t the fine print (always check with a tax professional), but the direction. This signals a cultural shift: movement matters. Strength training, mobility, and daily activity are not “extras”—they are foundational to longevity, mental health, and independence.
