Can Prayer, Creatine, and GLP-1s Protect Your Brain? Lets Talk Science.

Lucky me (sarcasm noted) God has blessed me this unnatural giddiness when it comes to scientific studies on health. Since my purpose revolves around bringing people to Jesus and keeping them healthy, when I see studies like these I MUST share.  

 

I’ll keep it to three today, they are short, take note and adjust accordingly!

 

NEWER GLp-1s could prevent dementia. Please note i'm not saying you should jump on Ozempic but this is worth a discussion for those who already have diabetes or are obese. Almost half of all dementia cases are actually preventable, and semaglutide (yep, the Ozempic/Wegovy drug) might help reduce dementia risk by preventing the risk factors for the disease (diabetes, obesity etc...) A new study showed people on these drugs had a significantly lower risk of developing dementia compared to those on insulin, metformin, or even older GLP-1 meds. The strongest effect was seen in reducing vascular dementia. It's not a magic cure, but it’s a promising lead, especially for people with type 2 diabetes.

 

 

People with stronger spiritual or religious (S/R) practices tend to live longer and have better health, even with things like heart disease, cancer, and mental health. Results vary a lot because “S/R” can mean anything from going to church to simply praying or meditating. Plus, it's hard to implement these kinds of spiritual care programs in real-world healthcare (were working on it, keep listening to StRest). Still, it’s cool to see growing research showing the real power of faith, connection, and purpose in healing.



Creatine to treat Alzheimer’s. In this study they gave patients creatine monohydrate, and not only was it safe, but it also increased brain creatine levels and improved memory and thinking! Since Alzheimer’s usually means steady decline, any improvement is a big deal. The researchers think it could especially help with memory and executive function the areas hit the hardest, and the ones I saw first in my mom. hardest. It’s early days, but definitely something to keep an eye on. I take 5g of creatine each day from Designs for Health, and had we had this research when my mom was alive I would have been giving her 20g a day no questions asked.
